I am a subscriber to the magazine Entertainment Weekly. This week's issue is full of articles on the upcoming movie "Sex and the City." There are articles about the fashion, the characters, all of the seasons, and everything else connected to the series.
Outside of Star Wars and Star Trek, I can't think of many other movies that have had such a huge cultural impact. Help me out. What other movies or tv shows have had a pop culture impact like Sex and the City?
In Sex and the City, people talked about fashion trends (oh, the shoes) , Cosmopolitans became popular, the hairstyles, acceptance of different lifestyles and family structures, etc.

This is so true! I can only think of one, and that would be,
"Desperate Housewives".......
I think!
Great post!
Visiting here always makes me ponder........"such media"!
Great post!
What about American Idol? The show itself propelled the entertainment division of Fox and has been the inspiration for many spinoffs.
It's also the talk of many a radio and television program.
Several of the finalists would be poking around the smaller clubs if not for the show, but are now household names.
No products per say, but plenty of talk that wouldn't otherwise happen.
Gee, I don't feel any differant
then again, I've never watched a whole episode.
As for cultural impact? Let's see, Miami Vice had folks wearing sports jackets with T shirts. I am of course assuming by cultural impact you mean fasion, right? Because if you tell me that SITC has fostered any social consciousness of any sort (like awareness of issues) you are out of your gnoggin. You have to go back to shows like M.A.S.H. or All in the Family for stuff like that,
as I'm pretty sure relevance has been banned from TV.
ozymandiaz...great point about Miami Vice. I forgot about that show! Pastel colors and sport jackets.
Sex and the City hasn't fostered any cultural impact outside of fashion.
All In the Family was significant for handling social issues not done before on tv.
Liquid...I love Desperate Housewives. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. I still wonder why they jumped ahead five years at the end of the season finale.
WIXY...American Idol is a phenomenon in itself. While there are no major product tie-ins, we can't seem to escape from it. Whether it's Kelly Clarkson being played on the radio every 30 minutes or seeing or hearing Ryan Seacrest, American Idol's presence is everywhere.
nice blog struke -- found my way here from liquid and wixygrad. keep up the fine posts - i don't watch much tv (other than baseball - go tribe!), but i am a news hound and normally am not impressed with the mainstream media's level of competency......(how's that for being semi pc?!) :) :)
