Suggestions for Improvement.

Today, I held a Video Broadcasting Advisory Committee meeting. I have one of these every semester. A parent, student, administrator, college professor, and guidance counselor are on the committee. We discuss things we do now, our needs for the future, and we also use the time to pat ourselves on the back for a job well done.

As community members and readers of this blog, I am open to your input. Help me and the committee educate the students.

What are some things that you think are important that this generation of filmmakers and broadcasters should know?

Please leave your thoughts and I will share them with the class and post their reactions here on this blog.

Thank you!

What is needed nowadays are those who are willing to take the "high road" and let those with high moral standards influence what is being produced and broadcast.

There are those who are willing to boycott programs of questionable moral content, but have no solutions of what should be broadcast or produced in it's place. I'm sure that the younger generation has filmakers and broadcasters who are willing to go against the grain and produce shows of high moral value. that should be encouraged.

Struke,

What no Bushwick Bill and the Ghetto Boyz under your list of favorite muscians in your profile?

No "Sinister Prime Minister" Pete Nice either?

What gives?

74WIXY...I totally agree with you about the moral standards issue. Today's kids are very impressionable and when all they see are the violent movies and listen to the vulgar music, that's what the kids see as acceptable and popular and anything else is pointless. Change is needed. WIXY...thank you for the suggestion.

Hog...unfortunately, today's kids don't know much about early 90s hip hop.

I guess you know now that I have so much respect for Cliff --- he speaks his mind with much fewer words than I can.

I find the job of teachers to be hard rows to hoe, because the Media sells propaganda, from whomever pays the most. These days there seems to be no honor in the “film making and broadcasting” industries. It’s all about the bottom-line, and that’s money, not people. The Media is controlled by the rich and powerful, and is fed to the poor and hungry. There are very few independents filmmakers and broadcasters with integrity. When they are found, they are either engulfed by the big corporations, or phased out because of lack of interest by the general public – who has been programmed by the larger Media.

The “negative” duplicities in our society, on every level, have hurt the growth of our youth. My suggestion would be to build up the self-esteem of our youth, and open doors for them to start their own independent Media, regardless of their background or culture. Teach them that in this life they must be tolerance, but tolerance should not get in the way of their own “personal” beliefs, nor should their “personal beliefs” get in the way of the TRUTH.

There is truly no right or wrong except where it concerns the individual, but this is my personal beliefs. But there is such a thing as fairness, and “individual” integrity. The TRUTH will set us free, but you can’t paint it. You can’t label it. You can’t dilute it to suit the masses. You just got to tell it and let the chips fall where they may.

It is not the smut on TV or in FILMS that is hurting our youth. It’s the smut that is in their homes, where there is so much abuse and violent. One can see this by how our children are reacting when they get out in public.

Children are killing children, whether it in drive-bys or in the Schools (Black/White) --- It all begins at home --- the family. Until we clean up our act within the homes, by teaching our children the truth --- not the truth as we see it, but “what is” based on observations, and “what works” based on experiences, and the possibilities in-between the two.

To do this, we need to pick up our dictionary and do some re-defining of words. If Black means evil and White mean pure --- well, we have a problem. With these two words the lives of all human are defined, so it’s no wonder we are in trouble with the Film and Broadcasting industries.

Labels define us, but not by individual choice. Our youth live with the lies most grown-up fed them, and you wonder why they choose the “gangs” or go out and kill their “peers”. We are the problem, and the forced feeding we are doing to our children, by teaching them that one is better than the other, on any level, is what has gotten us in trouble.

Thus, and dare I say this, the hypocrisy of our society is what has stunted humanity’s growth. Still, there is hope, for in each of us is greatness waiting to come forth.

The power is still in the PEN --- for what comes from the PEN is made into films, and if this be the case, to each of our youth I would say this, go forth and spread the seeds of TRUTH as you observe it, as you experience it --- and let the chips fall where they may. But when the chips fall, please don’t live in a state of denial.

I don’t mean to get up on a soapbox, but I am old and I speak to my observations and experiences. This is my truth, my words reflect my life.
