Orientation
I just finished two days of orientation at the university. Both days were jammed with breakout sessions of different topics ranging from diversity to technology. Day Two culminated with sessions on benefits and retirement packages.
The thing that stuck out the most to me from today was during lunch, five tenured faculty members talked to us about the tenure process. They said that the university wants to see us succeed as faculty members. They want us to do well because they look at us as their investment. The first day of class is Monday...already!!!!
UPDATE: Here is a shot of me with my UT goodie bag, which has pens, important info and jump drive!

Our guy Struke looks all grown up. I just hope all those folks in northwest Ohio take good care of you.

Cliff...they are taking good care of me. The people up here are really good to work with and everybody is supportive.
That sounds so exciting! Everyone seems to have such a positive attitude as well. What better place to work?
Enjoy your last few days!
Nice pic!
Bella
Bella...you got it. It is incredibly positive and very uplifting. There are certain things that were done and handled at orientation that made me say, "this is how it should be done." And it wasn't just because it's a university. It's just the way it was set up and run and the way they treated everybody. I was in a room with 94 other new faculty. Many were head and shoulders above me academically but everyone there, from the President of the university and others, treated us all like valuable stakeholders in the process.
Thanks for the compliments on the pic. In every picture I've had taken of me so far on campus, I have the biggest Kool-Aid smile because I am so, so happy to be here.
Best of luck to you when classes start. It seems like there is always so much to learn when you first start working at a new place. It helps tremendously to have support from your employers and fellow coworkers. You do look very happy in the photos. You have a nice smile. :D
I'm glad to hear they are treating you well.
Daisy...in the spirit of Elvis: thank you, thankyouverymuch.
ahhh!
mr strukel!
im so happy for you!!!
im glad you really like it so far!
yesterday was the first day of video class......oh my gosh....definitely not the same, but its ok....me, anna, jayme, and nicole started the internship at our schools channel today! we love it so far.
Biana...ahhhh...I wondered when I was going to hear from the Mayfield crew. How different is it? What's going on? E-mail me at my Yahoo account.
The cool thing with you and Mayfield channel is that you DO have the ability to do what you want (with some limits) but they want kids to work on the channel. Have fun with it. It's your senior year. Who else can say they put themselves or programmed their own tv channel in high school?! Pretty cool, huh?
I hope your senior year goes well.
thanks strukes!
